Raisin Gravy

One of my very favorite things of all time that my Mama used to make for me was her raisin gravy. Don't gross out, it's heavenly. Thing is, I've watched her make it a million times, but I never actually asked her how she did it. So, I've got to experiment and see if I can attempt to match it. 
My lovely sister, Cindy (who also never asked how she made it), found a recipe for raisin pudding. I made it tonight and it turned out so yummy. Here it is:

So, I guess my first challenge to myself is to tweak this to match raisin gravy as much as I can. It's a good thing Shane likes raisins....

Maiden Voyage

I've heard Oprah say for years that, to help with mental and emotional well-being, you should journal on a regular basis. I've bought several very beautiful journals with every intention of filling the pages with my insight. This hasn't happened. Those journals are filled with beautiful stick figure art drawn by my children, random phone numbers scribbled when I couldn't find my datebook, grocery lists, budgets that I didn't stick to, and one random Christmas card list of names that, I'm quite sure, didn't get cards that year. 
So. I'm blogging.
I don't think my desire to do this has anything to do with my mental or emotional well-being. I gave up on those things years ago. What I do hope is that this will help with my latest, greatest endeavor. I want to write a cookbook. I'm sure, if it ever gets written, it won't grace the best seller list. I would just like to compile my favorites from childhood and the things that are my favorites to make for my family today. 
Those who know me best know that I have, and have always had, "issues" with food. It's a love/hate really. I'm an emotional eater. By that I mean I eat when I'm feeling an emotion. Any emotion. By the time I was in my early 30's, my weight was out of control, and in 2008 I opted to have gastric bypass surgery. 3 years later and 110 pounds gone, I'm slowly changing my relationship with food. When I was overweight (from here on out I will just use the term "fat"), I never cooked. Never. I just ate. Alot. 
Now, I literally have a passion for cooking. I work a full-time job, and my stress release after a day at work is coming home and going straight to the kitchen (or kitchenette, as I refer to it. We'll discuss this more later). 
My ultimate hope is that I can share recipes with this blog, ask for and offer opinions on food/flavor combinations, and maybe touch on that mental and emotional well-being thing. Or maybe not...
